Floyd to present university address

PULLMAN – WSU President Elson S. Floyd will present his first State of the University Address at 3:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the Bryan Hall theatre.

Floyd will share his perspectives on WSU and outline his vision for the future. Faculty, staff, students and members of the general public are invited to attend.

Floyd took over as WSU’s 10th president in May 2007. Since then, he has maintained an active schedule of visits across Washington, meeting with business, government and community leaders, university supporters and people who are impacted by the university’s wide range of education, extension, research and outreach programs.

He has also been a visible presence on campus, meeting with student and faculty groups and holding a series of open forums to which all in the university community were invited.

Floyd has turned his attention to centers of research excellence around the university. In the early weeks of his presidency, he launched the effort to create a School of Global Animal Health to make the university a leader in exploring the interconnections between human and animal diseases.

An advocate of the university’s land-grant mission, Floyd has also stressed the need to build on WSU’s traditional strengths as a leader in agricultural research, extension and economic development.

Preceding the speech, Jeffrey Savage and Karen Hsiao Savage of the School of Music will present a piano prelude, beginning at 2:45 p.m. A reception in the Bryan Hall lobby will follow.

The speech will be videostreamed live online at www.experience.wsu.edu.
