A  former graduate student at Northern Illinois University stepped onto a classroom stage filled with students and opened fire Thursday killing five students, injuring many others, then committing suicide.  Others are still in the hospital. Authorities have identified the gunma as former Northern Illinois University student Steven Kazmierczak, 27.

 
The shooter was armed with three weapons including a shotgun. He is reported to have been an honor student on the dean’s list, respected by many students and faculty, and having no prior arrests or criminal record.
