Helping flood victims in our own state

The Combined Fund Drive is continuing to collect donations to assist victims of this month’s massive flooding in western Washington State.

WSU faculty and staff who want to help with relief efforts can do so easily and effectively through the Combined Fund Drive.

Donation forms and eligible agencies can be found by clicking on the following link to the WSU CFD website at www.cfd.wsu.edu and the state CFD site at https://www.cfd.wa.gov.  Additional questions can be directed to Kim Bzotte, administrative assistant CFD, 360-664-1995, kimb@dop.wa.gov.

The Washington State Emergency Operations Center remains in full operation and information about relief efforts can be found at https://www.emd.wa.gov/. The hardest hit counties were Lewis, Thurston, Grays Harbor, Mason and Snohomish counties.

According to Cindy Craig, the CDF campaign manager in Olympia, charities such as the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army are using reserve funds to assist the flood victims and both will need additional funds in order to respond to future emergencies.

Approximately 650 residents sought shelter as a result of the devastating flood in western Washington. Photos and links to news coverage of the flood can be found by clicking here.

Although Red Cross shelters are scheduled to close today, the Red Cross is continuing to staff emergency aid stations where people affected by the flood can pick up donated cleaning supplies, comfort kits and information about disaster relief.
