Tribal Leader speaks on ‘Sacred Spaces’

RICHLAND, Wash. — Wanapum Tribe religious leader Rex Buck will speak about spiritual landmarks in the Mid-Columbia region Thursday, Nov. 29, at WSU Tri-Cities.

“Sacred Spaces” will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the East Building commons area, 2710 University Drive, Richland.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Buck is from the Priest Rapids Dam area. As a patrolman, he knows
specifically what he protects. Every artifact, petroglyph and spiritual
landmark along the river has a story, some more than 11,000 years old.

Buck will talk about the ancient symbols — sunbursts, animals and circles — and how they tie into Native history.

“Sacred Spaces” is co-sponsored by the WSU Tri-Cities Multicultural Club and the Hear Here Club, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s Columbia River Professional Chapter, Pendleton Woolen Mills, Battelle, Fluor, Eberline, Bechtel, and the U.S. Department of Energy.
