Friday Event Gives College Experience to Middle School Students

RICHLAND, Wash. — Middle school students will get a first-hand university experience at “College Day” on Friday at Washington State University Tri-Cities.

About 150 sixth- through eighth-graders will tour the campus, learn about the academic programs, meet professors, and attend workshops about financial aid and career opportunities. Students will engage in various classroom and laboratory activities throughout the day, as if they were a college student.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at WSU Tri-Cities, 2710 University Drive, Richland. The group starts and finishes in the East Building Auditorium.

“It is never too early to plan for a college education,” said JR Gomez, WSU Tri-Cities Latino Outreach coordinator. “Students need to step foot on campus and get the real college experience of going to classes, so they have a positive experience.”

College Day is sponsored by WSU Tri-Cities Latino Outreach program and Connell’s GEAR UP program. The students are visiting from Roberts Old Junior High School in Connell and McLoughlin, Isaac Stevens, and Ochoa middle schools in Pasco.
