Poetry and Jazz at WSU Tri-Cities Nov. 9

RICHLAND, Wash. — Poets Amalio Madueño and Paul Everett Nelson will perform with jazz saxophonist Dan Blunck at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 in Washington State University Tri-Cities East Building Auditorium, 2710 University Drive, Richland Admission is free and open to the public.
 
Madueño is a widely published poet from New Mexico who is associated with the Taos Poetry Circus and is the namesake of Mexican Bob’s Poetry Camp. Recent anthologies featuring his work include “Venus in the Badlands” (J. Macker, ed. Desert Shovel, Santa Fe 2006), “Between Sleeps: The 315 Project” (Dinsmore & Alley, eds., Vancouver 2006), “Wandering Hermit Review” (Seattle, 2006), “Muse6″ (L. Council ed. El Paso, 2006), “Askew” Volume 2, (Ventura, Cal. 2006) and “Earthships: New Mexico Poetry Tangents Anthology” (2007).
 
Everett Nelson is founder of the nonprofit Global Voices Radio and co-founder of the Northwest SPokenword LAB (SPLAB!). A professional broadcaster since 1980, he performs poetry and conducts poetry workshops throughout the Pacific Northwest. His two chapbooks and CDs are entitled “Twisting Runes” and “A Time Before Slaughter.” He is president of the Washington Poets Association.
 
Saxophonist Blunck performs with Nelson in a poetry/music collaboration called WordPlay. Known for his improvisations, Blunck has recorded several albums including the Jazz Nouveau CD “Check This Out.” During his 30-year career, he has performed throughout the world with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Mel Torme, and The Temptations.
 
The Nov. 9 poetry events are part of the WSU Tri-Cities Fall 2007 Liberal Arts Season.
