PULLMAN – Nationally-acclaimed diversity author and speaker Allan G. Jonson will give a public address at WSUin Pullman, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) 203.
His speech titled, “Is Peace Possible? Gender and the Roots of War,” will examine a unique perspective on the way decisions are made on the world stage.
“In the run-up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld declared that the United States had
only two choices: to make war on Iraq or do nothing,” Johnson said. “Given the enormous suffering and lossthat resulted from this colossal failure of imagination, we need to ask–before we find ourselves in the middle of the next war–why such failures come so easily and so often and without the kind of broad opposition that might pull us back from the brink before it becomes too late.”

Johnson is no stranger to the Palouse region as this marks the fifth year in a row he will visit with students, faculty and staff on the Pullman campus. In past years he has also spoken at WSU Spokane and WSU Vancouver. Felicia Gaskins, associate vice president for The Division of Student Affairs, Equity and Diversity said Johnson has become a key component in WSU’s comprehensive diversity education program.
“In many respects Allan is back by popular demand,” said Gaskins. “He always gives an excellent presentation and many people return year after year to hear him speak. This year’s topic should capture the interest of most everyone.”
