PULLMAN – WSU Department of Theatre actors are putting the final touches on William Shakespeare’s first tragedy “Titus Andronicus.” The play will take place at 8 p.m. Oct. 25-27 and Oct 31 to Nov. 3 at Jones Theater in Daggy Hall. On Wednesday, Oct. 31, audience members who attend in costume will receive special Halloween half priced tickets at the door.
Stan Brown directs this absorbing tragedy that embodies a struggle for power, a thirst for revenge, and a duty to family.
The stage is set as victorious Titus returns from bloody battle with captives – the Goth Queen Tamora and her children. By Roman law her first-born son is sacrificed and Tamora is urged by secret lover Aaron, the Moor, to exact evil and brutal revenge. And here begins Shakespeare’s timely and haunting tale of abundant death, rape, cannibalism and torture.
Cast and crew include Zach Love as Titus, Jessica Weaver as Tamora, Dash Shearer as Saturninus, Bethany Webley as Lavinia, Kelly Miller as Chiron, Todd Johansson as Demetrius, Patrick Harris as Aaron, Christie Stordeur as Claudia, Alan Peery as Lucius, Cole Stevens as Bassianus, Katie Sundt as the fool, and Melissa Foley as Young Lucius. Additional roles include Andrew DeCesare, John Murphy, Mitch Kelly, Derek Brosious, Jason Coulson, Jeni Carver, Joshua Talty, Kevin Takisaki, Dave Warner and Baily Nelson. Set design by Dick Slabaugh, costume design by Rita Styer, lighting design by Ben Gonzales, and stage managed by Caitlin Duncan.
Tickets are available at the Daggy Hall box office 2 – 5:30 p.m. Wed-Fri the week of the play and an hour prior to the 8 p.m. curtain. General Admission tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $5 for students. Graduate/Professional students and their partners admitted free of charge with valid id.
