PULLMAN – “I try not to look at them. They’re so painful. But it’s like I almost have to,” said one female student to a friend who were passing by the Clothes Line Project, currently on display on Glenn Terrell Mall.
The display boasts hundreds of T-shirts hung on clotheslines, each revealing the words and memories of local students, family members and community members who have been sexually abused or assaulted.The shirts will be on display until Friday, Oct. 19. The display is sponsored by the YWCA and Coalition for Women Students, which was founded in the Women’s Resource Department.
The program is in its 24th year, and is part of the national event “Week Without Violence” and the annual “Take Back the Night.”
Abby Cutter, YWCA “Week Without Violence” coordinator and intern, said the “Take Back the Night” march will take place Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. The walk is free and welcome to all participants. It will begin at the entrance of Todd Hall and end at the bonfire ring across from Mooberry Track.
“Every year there is a pretty good turnout with campus support,” she said. “Last year there were around 500 walkers.” (Click here to listen to a second related comment by Katie Rosapepe.)
