“Lessons from a journey,” by Terry Umbreit, director of the School of Hospitality Business Management, will be the topic of the annual Burtenshaw hospitality lecture at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in Todd auditorium 116. A reception will precede at 2:30 p.m. in the Todd atrium.
The Burtenshaw series is free to the public. It was created by alumnus Jerry (’56) and Angelina Burtenshaw to honor the memory of their son, Calvin Brett. Jerry Burtenshaw is chairman of ABC Services (Seattle).
Professor Umbreit is the Taco Bell Distinguished Professor in the School of Hospitality Business Management. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his contributions and service to hospitality education.
His research focuses on human resource and hospitality education issues. Research topics include studies on emotional labor, teaching effectiveness, career services excellence and the changing role of multi-unit restaurant managers.
