V-Day WSU Seeking Volunteers, Beneficiaries

PULLMAN, Wash.–Volunteers are needed to help with the 2008 V-Day WSU benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues.” Volunteers help plan, organize, promote and produce the entire production. Planning for the Washington State University benefit production starts in fall and leads up to three performances on Feb. 22, 23 and 24. Students, faculty and community members are all welcome to participate.

The production team meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 in the Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) room 416.

V-Day WSU is also seeking requests from 503(c) non profit organizations to be beneficiaries of the production. Beneficiaries should be local organizations working to prevent violence against women and girls or organizations that provide direct help to victims of violence.

“The Vagina Monologues” is part of a worldwide campaign called V-Day. The campaign focuses on stopping violence against women and girls. V-Day’s vision is to see a world where women can live safely and freely.

Eve Ensler created “The Vagina Monologues” after interviewing more than 200 women about their experiences with men, other women, violence, sex and life. The first performance launched the V-Day movement, and since 1998 millions of dollars have been raised to educate people about violence against women.

In 2007, V-Day WSU raised more than $6,000 from the benefit production of “The Vagina Monologues” and other fundraisers. Ninety percent of the proceeds go to non profit organizations who work to prevent violence against women.
