Gordon Named Student Regent, Forgette Reappointed

PULLMAN, Wash. – William (Billy) Gordon, a Washington State University senior majoring in psychology and finance, has been appointed as the student member of the WSU Board of Regents for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Gordon’s selection as WSU’s tenth student regent was made last month by Gov. Christine Gregoire. The appointment runs through June 30, 2008.

The governor also announced the reappointment of Francois Forgette of Kennewick to a six-year term on the board ending September 2013.

A native of Ellensburg, Gordon has served as an Associated Students of WSU Senator and a member of the student Senate Finance Committee. While active in ASWSU, he spearheaded a successful project to acquire new computers and extend the hours of operation at Holland Library. He is currently serving on the Compton Union Building Advisory Board, which is charged with ensuring that the allocation of resources and goals of the newly-renovated Compton Union Building are in alignment with the interests of students and the broader WSU Community.

Gordon said his work as an ASWSU senator led to his interest in serving on the Board of Regents.

“The main motivation is the same reason I was motivated to become a part of ASWSU. I love this school and I want to be a part of the positive changes that I see happening here,” said Gordon. “I am absolutely thrilled to have this chance.”

Gordon also serves as a pioneering member of the CougLink Peer Mentor program, which was created to ease the transition for incoming freshman from high school to college and help new students understand how to succeed both academically and socially.

In his spare time, Gordon enjoys camping and boating along the Columbia River and is an avid Cougar sports fan. The eldest of four children, he is the son of Bill and Laurie Gordon of Ellensburg.

Forgette was first appointed to the Board of Regents in May 2005. He is a partner with the Tri-City law firm of Rettig Osborne Forgette, LLP, which he joined in 1977. He also currently serves as the immediate past chairman of the TRIDEC Board of Directors. TRIDEC is the economic development entity for the Greater Tri-City Area in Benton and Franklin Counties.

Forgette is currently vice chair of the board.
