Event to Showcase Connections Between WSU, Washington Communities

SEATTLE — The connections between Washington State University agricultural research and outreach, local producers and Washington communities will be showcased at a Seattle event on Sept. 6.

“WSU at Benaroya Hall: In Concert with Communities” will feature hearty appetizers prepared with Washington-grown foods by at least 15 of the Seattle area’s top restaurants.  The event will celebrate 50 research, outreach and teaching programs of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences and WSU Extension, and the producers with whom they work.

“In Concert with Communities” will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Samuel & Althea Stroum Grand Lobby of Benaroya Hall, 200 University Street in Seattle.  Tickets are $40 in advance for adults and $15 in advance for youth. The event is part of the annual Cougar Week in Seattle.

Participating restaurants include Tom Douglas restaurants, Rover’s, Ray’s, Bellevue’s 0/8 Seafood Grill, Woodinville’s Barking Frog, Café Flora, Troiani, Union Square Grill, and Waterfront Seafood Grill.  Also participating will be Diane’s Market Caterer, Harvest Vine, La Medusa, Mona’s, Pan Africa, Sitka and Spruce, Stumbling Goat Bistro and Wolfgang Puck.

In addition to the many tasty treats participants will have a chance to sample Washington wines, beers and ciders, and to learn the story behind the great tastes of our state.  Displays also will showcase WSU programs and faculty working to address biofuel development, climate change, economic development and other issues important to the state.

WSU President Elson S. Floyd and Vice President of Economic Development and Extension John Gardner will join hosts Dan Bernardo, CAHNRS dean, and Linda Kirk Fox, associate vice president and dean of WSU Extension, in greeting the crowd.
