“Homes for Hope Carnival and Silent Auction,” is sponsored by 200 students from WSU Human Development 205. The carnival activities include a petting zoo, face painting, pitching machine, obstacle course, cake walk and a silent auction. The carnival is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 21 at
Eight teams of 19 to 25 students were in charge of creating awareness, fundraising, event planning and constructing homes for this cause. This project allows students to improve their interpersonal communications skills while leaving this community better than they found it, said Kim Kidwell, a professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences and an instructor for Human Development 205. Team presentations will occur from 10:35 to 11:50 a.m. on April 17, 19 and 24 in the
“Our philosophy is nobody does nothing, everybody does something,” said Kidwell. “It’s an amazing experience watching students contribute. It’s been rich with opportunities for them.”
Palouse Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that provides housing to local, low-income families in need, is raising money for the next project. The construction of these homes is dependant upon volunteers. Currently, these students are also helping to build a project home in
