Primary Care Update Conference in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash.- A two-day conference designed for primary care providers including Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Allied Health professionals will take place May 4-5, 2007 at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park in downtown Spokane.
The conference is presented by the Inland NW Academy of Family Physicians, Family Medicine Spokane Residency Program, and the Eastern Washington Area Health Education Center, Washington State University Extension.

Primary Care Update is designed to provide the opportunity for healthcare professionals to participate in educational sessions and workshops designed with the primary care practitioner in mind.

Featured speakers include Ted Rosen, MD, of Baylor University College of Medicine, Houston; TX, offering two sessions: Oral Dermatology and Learning Dermoscopy – Hands On!; Ken Cathcart, DO, of Northside Internal Medicine, Spokane – Diabetes, Hypertension; Shannon Jenkins, MD, of University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Care, Worcester, MA – Hospitalist Movement; Israel Coutin, MD, from Upland, CA – Sleep Medications in Elderly; Greg Belenky, MD, of The Sleep and Performance Research Center, WSU Spokane – Sleep, Circadian Rhythm, Shift Work & Performance; and Gary Newkirk, MD, Family Medicine Spokane – New Guidelines: HPV, Paps, Cervical Dysplasia – A Case Based Approach.
 
Two dinner programs are offered for providers on Thursday, May 3 as pre-conference workshops. Robert Maurer, PhD, Director of Behavioral Sciences at Family Medicine Spokane, will lead a workshop entitled, “Challenges of the Challenging Patient.”  Michael Garnett, MD and other providers from Klickitat Valley Health Systems in Goldendale, WA will present topics on, “Primary Care Endoscopy.” Registration for these dinner workshops is $30.00 per person and pre-registration is required.
