RICHLAND, Wash. –An exhibit featuring art by the Black Sweatshirt Group opens Thursday afternoon, April 5, at Washington State University Tri-Cities.
The Exhibition Center is located in room 102 of the Consolidated Information Center (CIC 102), at 2770 University Drive, Richland. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The Black Sweatshirt Group, an “underground” student club from WSU Pullman, was invited by Douglas Gast, WSU Tri-Cities Fine Arts professor and exhibition coordinator, to create the exhibition collaboratively with WSU Tri-Cities students. The exhibit includes video and sound that will be “controlled” by gallery visitors.
“It is a great opportunity for our students to interact with WSU Pullman students and faculty,” Gast said.
Most of the members of the Black Sweatshirt Group are enrolled in an advanced Interactive Media course in Pullman taught by faculty member Joseph Von Stengel.
“Joe has helped the students develop the focus of the exhibition and coordinate its construction,” Gast said. The group has worked with WSU Tri-Cities Fine Arts students, who have created a part of the exhibition and will assist in its installation.
“The Black Sweatshirt Group has created several challenging exhibits in the past,” Gast said. “The members of the group are constantly changing, which results in the creation of fresh new art every time they exhibit. Their work is always charged with excitement and energy.”
The exhibit will be on display through April 25.
