Building a Construction Business in the 21st Century – and Living to Tell About It

PULLMAN, Wash. – Robert McCleskey and Scott Redman of Sellen Construction Company will be presenting on the strategic business plan that led their company to become one of the Pacific Northwest’s Premier Building Contractors. The Constructing America Lecture Serier, sponsored through the School of Architecture and Construction Management at Washington State University, is the venue for this event on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. in Carpenter Hall 102.

“It is an honor to have such a prestigious company present at this event,” said Rick W. Cherf, assistant professor at WSU and founder of the School of Architecture and Construction Management’s Constructing America Lecture Series. “Sellen has been integral in establishing excellence in the field of construction management and business development. Their contributions to the building industry, including educational and community initiatives, puts them at the top of their field.”

McCleskey, president of Sellen, joined the company in 1981 as a project engineer and has been a key player in developing Sellen’s comprehensive approach to construction management, estimating and cost control. He has a long and successful track record in managing some of Sellen’s most notable work including major healthcare and high rise projects. McCleskey has been a contributing member of the Seattle community, serving on numerous non-profit boards and is involved in several construction industry associations.

Scott Redman, executive vice president of Business Development and Administration, has been involved with Sellen throughout his professional career, beginning with Sellen as a laborer and carpenter on various projects during his school years. Redman joined the firm on a full time basis in 1992 as director of Client Development. He later became vice president for marketing, and moved into his current role in 2001. Redman emphasis has been in business development, strategic planning, marketing, client relationships and corporate philanthropic efforts.

The Constructing America Lecture Series was established in 2004 to provide a forum for industry leaders to present current topics that effect the built environment and project life cycle in the development, design and construction of America’s infrastructure. This lecture series’ goal is to bring together the university, the community and industry to network and open a dialogue on critical issues that affect the field of construction management and business development.
