Swap sick leave for cash by Jan. 25

The accrued sick leave of some employees may be exchanged for cash — but only this month.

Employees whose year-end sick-leave balance exceeds 480 hours may convert sick-leave hours earned in the previous calendar year, minus those used during the year, to monetary compensation every January. No hours may be converted that would reduce the year-end balance below 480 hours.

Monetary compensation is paid at 25 percent and is based on the employee’s salary.

Teaching and research faculty are not eligible. Employees covered by collective bargaining agreements should refer to the appropriate agreement for eligibility information.

Civil service and collective bargaining unit employees should submit completed time/leave reports to their employing department for verification; reports then should be forwarded to Payroll Services. Eligible faculty and AP employees should submit time/leave reports to their employing department for verification; reports then should be forwarded to Human Resource Services, which will forward them to Payroll Services.

The processing deadline for payment is Jan. 25. Consult the Business Policies and Procedures Manual, section 60.41, for procedures, or contact HRS at 335-4521 or Payroll Services at 335-9575.
