A Facilitator’s Institute workshop is set for Jan. 25-27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help faculty develop professional facilitation skills to guide and encourage student learning. The workshop will be at the William’s Conference Center at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
The workshop is part of a series for faculty and staff to learn tools and strategies to help strengthen teaching skills. The workshop will be led by Daniel K. Apple, president of Pacific Crest, an educational consulting and publishing firm. The workshops are sponsored by the Northwest Regional Professional Development Center, comprised of a group that includes Washington State University, the University of Idaho and Lewis and Clark State College.
Faculty members often feel that they have not had sufficient training in teaching when they enter the classroom because of the research emphasis through the graduate school years, said Denny Davis, co-director of the Engineering Education Research Center at WSU.
“We want to be a catalyst to help faculty improve their own teaching and learning,’’ he said. “These workshops also provide an opportunity to build a strong community of educators who are striving for excellence in teaching.’’
The workshop is also open to interested K-12 teachers and graduate students.
Registration costs $300.
