Showcase celebration set for March 23

The achievements of Washington State University faculty and staff will be recognized at the annual World Class. Face to Face. Showcase on Friday, March 23.

“This is a chance to honor faculty and staff members,” said Fran McSweeney, vice provost for Faculty Affairs and chair of the Showcase Steering Committee.

The daylong showcase on the Pullman campus will include events such as the Academic Showcase, Distinguished Faculty Address Luncheon and Recognition Banquet.

Events throughout the day will be similar to last year, McSweeney said. Some minor changes in traffic flow, organization and promotion of the event will be made, but much will remain the same.

“It went extraordinarily well last year,” McSweeney said. “We are just trying to expand on that.”

One difference this year involves the committee that reviews poster submissions for the Academic Showcase. The 20 members include a representative from each college, which provides a broader knowledge of the different academic areas, McSweeney said.

Faculty interested in participating in the Academic Showcase can submit abstracts Dec. 15-Feb. 9. Abstracts can be submitted by visiting the showcase website ONLINE @ www.showcase.wsu.edu.

“We’re really looking for posters that will appeal to a wide audience,” McSweeney said.

The showcase not only honors the achievements of faculty and staff, it also provides employees the opportunity to learn about the areas of research and academic interest of their colleagues, McSweeney said.

“This event really is a celebration of faculty and staff excellence,” she said.
The showcase website will begin accepting event reservations Feb. 9.

Members on the steering committee with McSweeney include Tom Brigham, Donna Clark, Karen Fischer, Mary Gresch, Janet Herlinger, Ron Mittelhammer, Tena Old, Jim Petersen, Mary Sanchez-Lanier, Phyllis Shier, Dave Turnbull, David Whidbee and Jim Zuba.
