V-Day WSU, a registered student organization, produces the show using entirely student and community volunteers. The main goal of V-Day is to stop violence against women around the world and raise money for anti-violence organizations. The “V” in V-Day stands for Victory, Violence and Vagina.
In 2006, V-Day WSU raised more than $8,000 for groups working to prevent violence through the production of “The Vagina Monologues” and other fundraisers.
V-Day WSU volunteers are essential to the success of “The Vagina Monologues.” Volunteers plan, produce and promote the entire event. Everyone is welcome to participate and time commitments vary based on schedule availability.
Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” is based on her interviews with over 200 women about love, sex and life. The results are humorous, sad and empowering combinations of monologues given by diverse women. Planning for V-Day begins in the fall and leads up to the three performances in February.
Those interested in joining V-Day WSU should contact Katie Evermann Druffel, campus organizer, at 509/335-7472 or vdaywsu@wsu.edu. More information about “The Vagina Monologues” can be found at www.hws.wsu.edu/vdaywsu.
