STAGE One Performances Set for Oct. 4-7

PULLMAN, Wash. – While many students have the opportunity to participate in university productions, only a select few have the chance to watch their own script come to life.

The Washington State University theater department will host the eighth annual STAGE One performances at 8 p.m. Oct. 4-7, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at Wadleigh Theatre in Daggy Hall.

The STAGE One productions spotlight four student-written and student-directed one-act plays.

“Writing the script came pretty easily because I was writing it as part of a play writing course,” said Quinn Hatch, whose play, “My Interview with God,” was selected for production. “I was never short on material.”

“My Interview with God” tells the story of a man who discovers the foundation of western religion has an alien influence. The play is directed by Mitch Kelly.

“We have extremely talented students,” said Ben Gonzales, adviser for STAGE One. “These students have worked very hard and deserve recognition.”

Gonzales said 12 scripts were submitted for review, twice as many as last year.

The plays touch on varying topics from two couples with similar last names moving into the same condo on the same day in “Signing Beanus,” to a play about seven contestants competing for a free pass to the Alaska gold rush by entering in a magazine reality show in “Real Society.”

Joshua Gregen directs “Real Society,” which was written by Lynsi Burton, and “Signing Beanus” is directed by Kelsey Johnson and was written by Justin Hansen.

“The Play Can’t Go On” is a comedy about a play within a play, written by Han Quek and directed by Erik Johnson.

All performances are rated R for mature audience content.

The Daggy Box Office will open for ticket sales Oct. 2 -6 from 2 to 5:30 p.m.  The box office will also open one hour before each production for additional sales. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $5 for students with WSU ID cards. Graduate students and domestic partners are admitted free.
