First public forums set on presidential search

Washington State University faculty, staff and students, as well as area community members, are invited to share their input on important qualifications for the next president of WSU at public forums here Sept. 28.

The hour-long public forums will be held at 10 a.m. and at noon on Thursday, Sept. 28, at Fulmer Hall, Room 201.  Similar forums are planned for Spokane, the Tri-Cities, Vancouver and Seattle in coming weeks.

President V. Lane Rawlins, who has served since 2000, announced in July that he plans to retire in June 2007. He is the ninth president of WSU.

The two Pullman forums will be led by Regent Rafael Stone, chair of the Presidential Search Advisory Committee, and Jan Greenwood, president and CEO of Greenwood and Associates, Inc. Greenwood and Associates is the executive search firm assisting with the search.

The public forums will provide an opportunity for people to share their thoughts and recommendations regarding the following questions:

* Could you share with us your perception about what the next president must accomplish over the next three to five years?

* With what you know about the university and its culture, what are the characteristics this person must have to be a good fit with the university?

Respondents may also provide their comments on these questions via e-mail to: forumcomment@wsu.edu.

Dates, times and places for the public forums to be held around the state will be announced in the near future.
