WSU alum and supporter named Boeing CEO

Scott Carson, a Washington State University alumni (’72 B.A. Business Administration), and a 34-year veteran at Boeing, has been named the president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Carson, 60, who also earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Washington, will resplace Alan Mulally, who late last week was named the new CEO of Ford Motor Co.

Carson, sometimes referred to as Boeing’s top salesman, has spent all but two years of his career at Boeing’s Seattle facility. The company’s corporate headquarters are now located in Chicago.

Carson has maintained his connections with the university, serving as Boeing’s executive for WSU, a member of the WSU Foundation board, and chair of the College of Business’ National Board of Advisors during 2005-2006.

Together with their family, Scott and Linda Carson funded the creation of the Carson Center for Professional Development in the College of Business in 2005 and also established an endowed scholarship fund (see www.wsutoday.wsu.edu/completestory.asp?StoryID=2384).
Carsons also joined with Boeing to create the College of Business’ first endowed chair
in marketing (see www.wsutoday.wsu.edu/completestory.asp?StoryID=3034)

Boeing career highlights have included:
* Joined Boeing in 1973 as a financial analyst on the B-1 bomber avionics program
* 1976, moved into management
* 1997, executive vice president and CFO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes; executive vice president of business resources for the former Boeing Information, Space & Defense Systems
