Two media-related service units — Washington Higher Education Telecommunication System (WHETS), located in Murrow Hall, and Instructional Support Services (ISS), located in the Terrell/Holland Library — recently merged resources and staff to form Academic Media Services, which serve faculty, staff and students statewide.
Both units are part of Educational Telecommunications and Technology (ETT), which also includes public television and public radio broadcasting services. In addition, ETT was renamed Educational and Public Media and remains the umbrella organization for Academic Media Services.
Academic Media Services provides:
• classroom technology support and training services for general university classrooms on the Pullman campus
• closed-circuit video distribution services for the multimedia general university classrooms in Pullman
• equipment rental and self-service technology services to faculty, students and staff (such as video editing and duplication, computer production and design, transfer of legacy slides and films to videotape or digital media)
• media and AV for events in WSU Pullman facilities
• video production services, including taping and/or videostreaming, for WSU Pullman events
• scheduling and support of videoconference facilities used for the delivery of academic courses to WSU sites across the state, K-20 sites within Washington and facilities at institutions in other states and nations
• distance learning support and training for the synchronous delivery of academic courses
• bridging services for multipoint video connections
• video streamed events
• scheduling and facilitation of meetings and events that utilize videoconferencing technology, the Internet2 Access Grid and PC based collaboration tools, such as web conferencing
• consultation services for classroom and distance learning technologies
AMS services planned for the future include:
• on-demand video capability and access to a library of learning objects for faculty and student presentations
• roll out of technology to enhance the ability for both the creation and distribution of media content in both audio and video formats
• roll out of self-service videoconference scheduling for registered WSU users utilizing Outlook
• enhanced training for faculty, students and staff
• completion of videoconference classroom upgrades to allow full graphics capabilities
• upgrades of legacy equipment, platforms and facilities
