WSU Vancouver Facilitates Successful Transition to College Life: New Students Invited to ROAR

Vancouver, Wash. – On June 23, freshmen students enrolled for fall 2006 at Washington State University Vancouver will have the opportunity to gain tools that will assist them with Registration, Orientation, Advising and Resources (ROAR). The ROAR program, developed by the Office of Student Services, will help to facilitate a successful transition to college life for new students.

“Research shows that freshmen who had a successful first year of college were well-informed about the processes involved in selecting and registering for classes, as well as the various services available to them,” said Nancy Youlden, vice chancellor of Student Services. “We want all of our freshmen to succeed at WSU Vancouver and, therefore, freshman attendance at ROAR is mandatory. The ROAR events offer valuable information that is critical to the success of incoming freshmen because it helps them navigate through their initial weeks here on our campus.”

Students and their guests will have the opportunity to have lunch with faculty, pose questions to a panel of current students (a great way to get the “inside scoop”), and more. Three different ROAR sessions are scheduled on June 23, July 14 and August 11, and freshmen may register for any one of them online at https://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/ss/orient/roar.html. The ROAR event culminates in a two-day orientation in August just prior to the beginning of the fall 2006 semester.

WSU Vancouver offers 14 bachelor’s and nine master’s degrees in more than 35 fields of study. The campus is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. WSU Vancouver’s Web site address is https://www.vancouver.wsu.edu.
