Summer exhibits features acrylic, collage paintings

VANCOUVER – Marcy Baker’s collection of acrylic and collage paintings, titled Rhythms, will be on display in the Washington State University Vancouver Engineering Life Sciences building gallery July 7 through August 14.

The pieces feature motifs from relief blocks carved from traditional Celtic motifs and Victorian-era textile designs and stencils inspired by seventeenth century chintz fabrics. Baker layers acrylic paint in repetitive patterns and adds collage elements in between and on top of the layers. The pieces instill a sense of balance and serenity, with gentle colors, organic details and layers that unveil a sense of depth.

Baker’s work has been shown in venues across the US and is held in numerous private collections. Her artistic studies began with a bachelor’s in fine arts in textile design from Syracuse University and she teaches at the Multnomah Art Center in Portland, Ore. Baker’s work is currently represented at the Print Arts Northwest Gallery in Portland and the Mary Lou Zeek gallery in Salem, Ore. Visit www.marcybaker.com for more information.
