A Prairie Home Companion coming to Pullman Oct. 7

PULLMAN – A live performance of A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor will come to WSU Pullman on Oct. 7 in Beasley Coliseum. The presentation is in conjunction with Northwest Public Radio, a broadcast service of Washington State University and an affiliate of National Public Radio. The show will begin at 3 p.m. and will be broadcast live to a nationwide audience. 

Tickets to the performance will be $35 and $55 and will go on sale Aug. 28 at TicketsWest outlets.  Tickets can be purchased by phone at (800) 325-SEAT, online at TicketsWest.com or in-person at any TicketsWest outlet.

A Prairie Home Companion is a celebrated variety show produced by Prairie Home Productions and distributed by American Public Media.  On the NPR and Classical Music service of Northwest Public Radio, A Prairie Home Companion airs Saturdays at 5:00 PM and Sundays at Noon.  The program also is heard Saturdays at 3:00 PM and Sundays at 10:00 AM on the NPR News service of Northwest Public Radio.

“A Prairie Home Companion is a public radio gem,” said Station Manager Roger Johnson.  “Our audience has an amazing emotional attachment to Prairie Home because it’s richly entertaining and always full of laughs and surprises.  I’m delighted that fans throughout the region will be able to enjoy this live performance.”

The Oct. 7 A Prairie Home Companion will feature live performances and comical skits by Keillor and the Prairie Home cast. Keillor will weave local humor into the show and share his signature monologue, “The News From Lake Wobegon.”

A native Minnesotan, Garrison Keillor began working at Minnesota Public Radio in 1969.  In the summer of 1974, he hosted the first live broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, a program now heard weekly on more than 580 public radio stations by more than four million listeners.  Keillor is also the author of 13 books and winner of numerous awards for his broadcasting and literary work, including membership in the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters (2001), The National Humanities Medal (1999), and a Grammy Award for the recording of Lake Wobegon Days (1985).

A Prairie Home Companion is sponsored nationally by Lands’ End Direct Merchants, Select Comfort and Watkins.  Local media sponsors for the event are the Moscow-Pullman Daily News and the Lewiston Tribune.  Additional sponsors for the local broadcast are being sought.  Interested parties should call 800-842-8991 and ask for Roger Johnson.
