PULLMAN – The School of Biological Sciences at Washington State University on June 9 renamed its Electron Microscopy and Imaging Center to the the Franceschi Microscopy and Imaging Center, recognizing the extensive contributions of the late Vincent Franceschi to the center and WSU.

The event was part of an international symposium in the memory of Vince Franceschi held at the same time in CADD 21.
Franceschi worked at Washington State University in the Department of Botany since 1982. He rose to the rank of full professor in 1992 and assumed the directorship of the Electron Microscopy Center two years later, a position he held at the time of his death in 2005. Franceschi also volunteered in 2001 to assume the director’s position for the school after the Department of Botany, along with several other departments, was reorganized into the School of Biological Sciences in 1999.
