Dedicated Teacher Receives Alumni Achievement Award

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University graduate Steve Bernard was awarded the Alumni Achievement Award today in Spokane. Barry Jones, past president of the WSU Alumni Association (1968-1969), made the presentation at Central Valley High School.

Bernard graduated from WSU in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and then studied administrative education at Whitworth College. Bernard is currently employed by the Central Valley School District where he instructs a course dedicated to teaching students about the Holocaust.

In 2005, Bernard was awarded the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Fellowship
in recognition of his dedication in teaching students about the Holocaust. The fellowship is given to only 15 teachers throughout the U.S. each year.

Bernard is the 456th WSU graduate to receive the Alumni Achievement Award. The award was created in 1970 by the WSUAA Board of Directors as its highest honor to recognize alumni who have given outstanding service to WSU and made contributions to their professions, community and nation. The award encourages alumni to provide perpetual service to WSU.
