Rep. Kelli Linville received the Washington Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network Silver Star Award at the Spring Meeting of the SBDC State Advisory Board in Seattle Thursday, April 20.
Rep. Linville represents the 42nd Legislative District and chairs the House Economic Development, Agriculture & Trade Committee. Rep. Linville has special insight into the economic development benefits generated by the Washington Small Business Development Centers. As a successful small business owner, she has used the management and technical assistance services available to small business owners through the Bellingham SBDC located at Western Washington University
Rep. Linville has been a member of the SBDC Advisory Board since early in 2005. “Kelli Linville brings both expertise with the legislative process and personal knowledge of the challenges of running a small business to her role on our Advisory Board,” says Brett Rogers, State Director of the Washington SBDC. “We are fortunate to have that combination as we work to develop a strategy to expand service delivery across the state.”
The Washington SBDC Silver Star award was created in 2005 during the network’s 25th anniversary. The award is presented to partners, clients, and stakeholders who have helped to advance the SBDC’s vision to provide expert technical assistance, training, and business services to small businesses across the state. Past recipients of the Silver Star award include the Port of Walla Walla, the Wenatchee Valley Chamber, the Puget Sound Business Journal, Evergreen Community Development Association, and other key stakeholders across the state.
“The Washington SBDC would not have the ability to provide quality technical assistance to create positive economic results in local communities without the support of stakeholders such as Rep. Linville,” says Rogers. “Her service on the SBDC Advisory Board strengthens our ability to serve small businesses throughout Washington.”
The SBDC provides no-charge confidential counseling and low-cost training to current and prospective business owners. It is a cooperative effort between Washington State University, Western Washington University, community colleges, economic development organizations, and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
