Civic Engagement Week features student forum on Katrina relief effort

PULLMAN, Wash. — As a feature of Civic Engagement Week, Washington State University students will be holding a Hurricane Katrina Relief Forum from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 26 in room 212 of the Compton Union Building.

During spring break many WSU students volunteered in a wide scale clean-up and relief effort in the Gulf Coast region. Students from YMCA, The Common Ministry at WSU, Chi Alpha, Campus Crusade for Christ, students enrolled in the principles of service and leadership class (EdAd 440) and the Fellowship of Evangelical Students will be sharing photos and stories from their experience in the hurricane damaged region. Many of the students paid their own way in order to participate as volunteers.

Civic Engagement Week takes place April 24-29 and recognizes the efforts of civically engaged students at WSU. The week is hosted by the Community Learning Service Center and will also feature a blood drive, service projects, class presentations, the Distinguished Service Learning Awards and career service workshops for finding a job with a non-profit organization.
