ASWSU announces second-annual holiday lights contest

PULLMAN, Wash.—Applications for ASWSU’s second-annual holiday lights contest are now available to WSU students and the Pullman community.

The contest, which has five different categories including university offices, fraternities, sororities, residence halls and private residences, is open to anyone who registers. The purpose of this event is to connect ASWSU and students to Pullman community members.

Participants will be judged on the following criteria:

*Creativity, in the use of ornamentation, lights, and overall theme or decorative scheme

*External illumination, which ASWSU has defined as “any lights or ornaments placed outside of a residence or other living facility.” The use of lights are required.

*Common areas, which include, but are not limited to, lounges, lobbies, libraries, and study rooms.

*General holiday appearance, which includes the use of ornaments and other holiday decorations. While holiday themes are not required, unlike the use of lights, ASWSU encourages them. ASWSU also suggests using energy-efficient decorations to conserve costs.

Contest rules and applications are available on ASWSU’s Web site, www.aswsu.org. Completed applications must be returned to Janet Ashcraft in CUB room 337.

Judging will take place on Thursday, Dec. 8 for university offices, and on Friday, Dec. 9 for Greek chapters and residence halls. There will be one winner from each category. Contest winners, who will receive a plaque and have their names added to the plaque in the ASWSU office, will be announced on Dec. 16.
