Fall Gallery Show Features Transparent Watercolor, Batik on Japanese Papers

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A collection of transparent watercolor and batik on Japanese papers by Salmon Creek artist Fay Kahn will be on display in the Washington State University Vancouver Engineering Life Sciences Building gallery Oct. 14 through Dec. 20.

The paintings are created using a batik method with hot wax and watercolor. The melted wax is applied with brushes and tjanting tools onto Japanese paper and removed by ironing. The combination of wax, quality paper and watercolors creates unique texture and depth in the painting.

Prior to becoming a full-time artist, Kahn was an educator who held positions in early childhood learning, remedial teaching and community education. She is board president of the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society and is a member of the Northwest Watercolor Society. Her work has been shown locally and nationally in juried shows. Upcoming gallery shows include work by photographer Trish Reynolds. Entry to campus exhibits is free. WSU Vancouver galleries are open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. Parking is available at parking meters or in the blue lot for $2.
