Service-learning course construction taught

Washington Campus Compact, in partnership with Seattle University’s Center for Service and Center for the Excellence in Teaching and Learning, will offer a Service-Learning Course Construction workshop 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at Seattle University.

The workshop is designed for faculty new to or having some experience with service-learning, and for community service-learning staff desiring more skills and training for how to work with faculty and course construction/revision. Washington Campus Compact and Seattle University staff—along with local community college and university faculty, and community partners—will serve as workshop presenters.

The workshop will provide faculty with fundamental content (e.g., definitions, course construction components, models, and principles) along with integrative dimensions (e.g., reflection, community engagement, and assessment).
Experienced faculty and community partners talk with workshop attendees, showcasing models of successful service-learning courses. Faculty will have time to plan and craft objectives for a service-learning course, and relevant resources and support for action steps will be considered following the workshop.

The workshop will be held in Campion Ballroom, Campion Tower, at Seattle University. Cost is $25, including refreshments, lunch and workshop materials.

For more information see Washington Campus Compact’s website at www.wacampuscompact.org/events.html, or call Julie Muyllaert, state network director of Washington Campus Compact, 360-650-7554. Registration deadline: Friday, Oct. 14.
