Celebration brings extensive schedule of events

As part of International Education Week, students gathered on Glenn Terrell Mall on Tuesday, Sept. 27 to display pictures, clothes and other artifacts representing their different cultures.

The Culture Fair and Exchange Programs event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., gave international and domestic students a chance to tell stories and share aspects of their cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, Exchange Program representatives were on hand to answer students’ questions about study abroad programs.

Other upcoming International Education Week events include:

*Library Night from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Neill Public Library. The event will allow elementary school children to learn about different cultures through music, pictures and games. There is no cost to attend.

*The International Center, home of the International Students’ Council, will host an open house from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Sept. 29 in CUB room B-25. Mary Wack, director of undergraduate education, will discuss international education, and Jodi Simek, the center’s new coordinator, will share her vision for the future. Refreshments will be served. *A free showing of “The Motorcycle Diaries” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 in the Honors College lounge.

*Norwegian movie “Elling” will be shown at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 in the CUB Auditorium. The comedic drama is a film appropriate for all ages. For more information, contact Hai Tran at hvtran@wsu.edu.

*International Coffee Hour will take place from 3-4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 in the International Center, CUB room B-25. Every Friday, the coffee hour allows domestic and international students to mingle and discuss topics of importance to international students. The topic for Sept. 30’s coffee hour is “History of Homecoming,” in preparation for WSU’s homecoming in October. *”International Up-All-Night,” organized by Campus Involvement and the International Students’ Council, will take place from 9 p.m. – 2 a.m. on Sept. 30 at the CUB. There will be movies, live music and food, as well as numerous activities offered by multicultural, international and domestic students. *An International Fashion/Talent Show, sponsored by the International Students’ Council and the Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles, will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the Gladish Community Center theater. WSU students and community members will present different styles of dress from around the world. Admission is free. For more information, contact Julie Carson at jcarson@wsu.edu.

*The WSU Japan Club will hold the World Cup Soccer Tournament from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2 at Grimes Field. For more information, contact Shinji Kimura, president of the Japan Club, at Dublin@wsu.edu.
