Lichtenstein Exhibit Catalogue Now Available at the WSU Museum of Art

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Museum of Art is pleased to announce the arrival of the new exhibition catalogue, “Roy Lichtenstein Prints 1956-97 From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation.”  This 95-page, full-color trade book was produced in conjunction with the Roy Lichtenstein print exhibit opening at the museum Sept. 24.

Produced by the Museum of Art  and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation through Marquand Books of Seattle, the publication takes an in-depth look at the seventy-seven Lichtenstein prints on display in the exhibit.  Accompanying essays by Elizabeth Brown, chief curator of the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, Chris Bruce, Museum of Art director, and MacArthur award winning writer Dave Hickey, offer an introduction to Lichtenstein’s work as well as fresh perspectives on his lasting impact on Pop art and beyond.

“Roy Lichtenstein Prints 1956-97” is available through the Museum of Art (retail price: $25-cash or check only), and the Bookie and is being distributed internationally by D.A.P/Distributed Art Publishers of New York.

Jordan Schnitzer and the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation supported the “Roy Lichtenstein Prints 1956-97” exhibit, book and educational outreach programs with the donation of the artworks as well as a major grant.  Additional funding for the book was provided by the H.S. Wright III Signature Exhibition Fund at Washington State University and a donation from Robert and Winona Nilan of Pullman.

To expand the impact of the annual Signature Exhibition program beyond the immediate region, the Museum of Art has begun generating publications.  Last year, the museum published and distributed nationally, “Extending the Artist’s Hand: Contemporary Sculpture from the Walla Walla Foundry.”

Now, with the production of “Roy Lichtenstein Prints 1956-97,  Rob Snyder, Museum of Art director of development, said, “We see this as being responsive to our function within a research university. It’s also an opportunity to share our programs with audiences nationwide.”

The book will travel with the exhibit to a number of other venues after leaving Pullman: the Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington in Seattle; the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon, Eugene; the Las Vegas Museum of Art; Palm Springs Art Museum; and the Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
