Chinese scholars participant in entrepreneurship forum

PULLMAN — Washington State University’s Center for Entrepreneurial Studies will co-host the second Sino American Forum on Entrepreneurship and Management Aug. 4-5 in Pullman.

The forum will be held in the Samuel H. Smith Center for Undergraduate Education, Room 518. Representatives from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China, will also attend.

“The forum was established to foster the sharing of research and ideas between scholars, students, business, and government officials on important, rapidly developing issues in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial management,” said Jerman Rose, faculty member and director for the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies in the College of Business and Economics.

Contact between WSU and SWUFE was initiated in 1998 through WSU economics graduate Boqing Wang. WSU began by hosting two faculty members from the Chinese university and has since hosted about 10 of its faculty members. WSU faculty has also visited and lectured at SWUFE and has received six MBA students from the university.

The themes scheduled for discussion include “New venture creation: Planning, Financing or Managing the New Venture,” “Opportunities and Challenges for Small and Medium enterprises in the Global Economy,” “Management of New and Emerging Firms,” “Prospects for Small and Medium Enterprises in Developing Countries,” “The Roles Played by Government in the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in China and the United States,” “Comparative Studies of Small and Medium Enterprises in China and the United States,” “Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Business Development,” “Transformation and Modernization of Business Practice in the Current Business Environment” and “Cases Exemplifying New Venture and Small and Medium Business Issues.”

The first forum was held at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. More than 200 people from the United States and China attended.

For lecture times, contact Teresa Brewer, College of Business and Economics, at 509-335-4851.
