Media Availability Set to Discuss StoryCorps: A National Oral History Project Scheduled for the Palouse

PULLMAN, Wash. — Members of Washington State University’s Northwest Public Radio, National Public Radio and the city of Moscow will meet with members of the media at 10 a.m. Wednesday (July 20) to discuss StoryCorps, a national initiative to document everyday history and unique stories of America, set to come to the Palouse next month.

The event will be held on the second floor of Moscow City Hall, 206 E. 3rd St.

StoryCorps will arrive in Moscow, Idaho, Aug. 25 to collect the stories of Palouse residents as part of the program’s cross-country tour. Modeled after the Works Progress Administration projects of the 1930s, StoryCorps will travel to every corner of the United States, instructing and inspiring individuals to record their stories in sound for the Library of Congress. StoryCorps is the largest oral history project ever undertaken, with more than 2,000 stories already collected from the project’s first year, and plans to collect more than 250,000 interviews over the next decade.

For more information on the project, visit www.storycorps.net or contact Mary Hawkins, program director for Northwest Public Radio, at (509) 335-6507 or e-mail to mhawkins@wsu.edu.
