Provost Robert Bates has invited William Eamon, candidate for the position of dean of the College of Liberal Arts, to return to WSU for a second visit. It is anticipated that he will return to campus May 8-9.
Eamon is a Regents Professor of History, S. P. and Margaret Manasse Chair and Director of the Honors College at New Mexico State University. He visited the WSU campus April 4 and 5. He has been a faculty member at NMSU since 1976. Eamon received his Ph.D. in 1977 from the University of Kansas.
He is a specialist in the history of science and medicine and the Italian Renaissance. His research interests are: Medieval and Early Modern Science; The Scientific Revolution; Science and Popular Culture; Magic and Occult Traditions in Renaissance Europe; Science and Culture in 16th Century Italy and Spain. He has published a book, Science and the Secrets of Nature (Princeton 1994) and over fifty articles and reviews in the area of history of science, technology, and medicine.
The other dean candidates are Eric Herzik, interim dean, College of Liberal Arts, University of Nevada, Reno, and Eleanor Miller, professor of Sociology and associate dean for Social Sciences in the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.
