WSU Math Department Gives Scholarships, Research Awards

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Department of Mathematics last week (April 21) named the scholarship and research awards winners at its annual Scholarship and Research Awards Ceremony.

The 2005-06 award winners include Konstantin Stakhovich, Bell Outstanding Freshman Students; Michael Harbour, Knebelman Outstanding Sophomore; Jeremy Stalberger, J. Russell and Mildred H. Vatnsdal Memorial Scholarship; Jon Lamoureux, Knebelman Outstanding Senior Award; Patrick Valeri, David Koslicki and Alan Finnie, each received a William and Mary Lynn Graber Endowment Fund award; Julie Solbrack, Daniel Forsman and Katherine Swanson, each received a Marianne Hawley Fessler Outstanding Undergraduate Student award; Ryan Reisert, Elaina Smith and Emilee Herrean, each received a Department of Mathematics Undergraduate Endowment Fund award; Jong Sam Jeon, Kent Griffin, Francisco Alvarado and DeAnne Lamkin, each received a Sidney G. and Evelyn Hacker Scholarship for Graduate Students award; and David Wollkind and Hon-Ming Yin, each received an Outstanding Research Award for Faculty.

Alan Genz, chair of the math department, opened the evening with an introduction. Faculty members from the department presented the awards. A reception followed the ceremony.
