Wilson to Deliver Annual Halver Lecture

PULLMAN, Wash. — Robert P. Wilson, a biochemistry professor from Mississippi State University, will deliver the 2^nd Annual Halver Comparative Nutrition Lecture at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in C105 Johnson Hall on the Pullman campus of Washington State University.

Wilson, an internationally recognized expert on fish nutrition, will speak on “Fish Nutrition: Moved from an Art to a Science.”  In his talk, Wilson will discuss the development of nutritional genomics in fish nutrition.

Wilson has served on several National Research Council committees, including the Committee on Animal Nutrition and the Board on Agriculture; has won numerous awards for his service to the aquaculture industry and has authored over 240 publications. One of his major accomplishments was to define the nutrient requirements of the catfish.

The Halver lecture is a gift from Dr. and Mrs. John E. Halver. A professor emeritus from the University of Washington, John Halver received the Washington State University Alumni Achievement Award in 2003. Halver is a leading authority on fish nutrition and member of the National Academy of Sciences. He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1944, and a master’s degree in organic chemistry in 1948 from WSU.
