The Washington State University School of Architecture and Construction Management will host a series of three architectural lectures on the Pullman campus in April.
Mitchell Schwarzer, chair of visual studies at the California College of the Arts, will speak at 6 p.m. Monday, April 4 in Carpenter 102 on “Zoomscape: Architecture in Motion and Media.”
Schwarzer has written extensively on architecture, urbanism, landscape, and historic preservation. In his book, “Zoomscape: Architecture in Motion and Media,” he writes about how our perception of architecture changed with new forms of transportation and photo technology in the 20th century. Schwarzer holds a doctorate from MIT in architectural history and a master’s degree in city planning from Harvard University.
Architect Ole Scheeren, partner, Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in the Netherlands, will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 in Carpenter 102 on “Adjustment during Development, Develop during Adjustment.”
Scheeren has led the design of well-known projects, including the China Central Television Station (CCTV) in Beijing and the Beijing Books Building. He has recently completed the Epicenter Store for Prada, the Italian fashion design company, in Los Angeles, after having directed OMA’s work for Prada since 1999. Scheeren was also led design of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art extension. He has been involved in various art projects and exhibitions, such as ‘Cities on the Move’ in London and Bangkok, ‘Media City Seoul’ and the Rotterdam Film Festival.
Architect Jesse Reiser, principal with New York-based Reiser + Umemoto RUR Architecture and an assistant professor at Princeton University, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15 in Carpenter 102 on “Three Consequences and their Projects.”
Reiser + Umemoto, RUR Architecture is an internationally recognized architectural firm that has built projects at a wide range of scales from furniture design, to residential and commercial structures, to landscape design and infrastructure. The firm was among six selected to put forth a design proposal for the World Trade Center. It won an international competition for the redevelopment of a railway route and station in Taiwan.
Reiser’s book, “Atlas of Novel Tectonics”, will be published early next year by Princeton Architectural Press. His lecture is jointly sponsored by the University of Idaho Department of Architecture.
All lectures are free and open to the public.
