Celebrating this year’s theme of “Mentoring: Side by Side. Step by Step,” the 10th annual Women and Leadership Forum presented the first WSU Mentor of the Year awards during the program Thursday, March 24.
The awardees are:
* Bobbi Thomas, senior academic adviser, Distance Degree Programs, in the category of Faculty-Service.
* Kelly Ward, assistant professor, College of Education, in the category of Faculty-Teaching.
* Teri Ockwell, fiscal specialist, WSU Extension Meeting Management-Program Support, in the category of Classified Staff.
* Mariah Maki, assistant director, Admissions, in the category of Administrative/Professional Staff.
“We are extremely proud to honor these outstanding members of the WSU community for mentoring others and making a difference at our university,” said Debbie Edwards, Career Services director and chair of the forum organizing committee. “We received 69 nominations from all around campus. Choosing the four top award winners from the field of nominees was quite a challenge.

Judging criteria included: well-rounded mentoring to more than one person; going beyond normal work duties and time; mentoring across a broad spectrum of job titles and classifications; style, professionalism, humor, sensitivity, trust, respect, imagination and showing a desire for what is best and honest for all.
