WSU Museum to Offer Seattle Public Library Presentation

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Museum of Art, in collaboration with the WSU School of Architecture and Construction Management, will host a presentation related to the construction of the new Rem Koolhaas-designed Seattle Public Library at 7 p.m. April 20 in Carpenter Hall 102.

An internationally renowned architect, Koolhaas is profiled in an article in the March 14 edition of The New Yorker magazine.

The presentation at WSU will feature Dan Harmon, vice president, and Dale Stenning, project manager of Hoffman Construction Co., which was the major construction contractor for the new library. The presentation is being offered in conjunction with “Focus: Art + Architecture,” a program initiated by the museum and the School of Architecture and Construction Management as a way of increasing cross-disciplinary projects on campus.

“In our continuing interest to explore the cross-disciplinary nature of creativity and innovation, we are thrilled to be able to collaborate with the School of Architecture and Construction Management to bring Dan Harmon and Dale Stenning to campus for a presentation on the most acclaimed new building in the country,” said Chris Bruce, director of the Museum of Art. “Dan is a Cougar and senior partner in Hoffman Construction, a firm that has worked with many of the world’s most important architects.  Dale has been the guy who, as project manager, has seen these buildings through to completion.”

Greg Kessler, the director of the School of Architecture and Construction Management said “The new public library in Seattle represents the ideas and beliefs of an internationally renowned architect regarding issues of urbanism, culture and our global condition. The opportunity to interact with those who were responsible for construction of this important work is an exceptional opportunity for students, public and university community.”

Established in 1922 by L.H. Hoffman, Hoffman Construction Co. has been involved in many projects of major distinction, including Frank Gehry’s Experience Music Project, and is the recipient of numerous American Institute of Architects awards for their innovative work on distinguished new buildings.
