Expert seeks to improve productivity, performance

“Strategic Investment, Information Technologies and New HR Practices” is the topic of the annual Bertha C. Leigh Lecture to be presented by Kathryn Shaw at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in Todd 216. The lecture is free to the public. A reception will follow in the Todd atrium.

Shaw, the Ernest C. Arbuckle Professor of Economics in the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, has focused her research on understanding the sources of productivity gains within firms and emphasizing the role of innovative human resource management practices in improving performance. She is among leading researchers developing the new subfield of “insider econometrics” that uses data from within firms to study the impact of human resource practices.

Shaw also will speak at 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, in Todd 404 about “Exploring Firms and Star Workers: Investigating the Link Between Product and Human Resource Strategies.” The public is welcome.

The Bertha C. Leigh Distinguished Speaker Series in Economics is supported by the gifts of Roy E. Leigh in honor and memory of his wife, Bertha. Their son, Duane E. Leigh, is a professor in WSU’s School of Economic Sciences.
