Register for March 9 retirement seminars

Employees participating in the PERS 3 retirement plan have an opportunity to visit with Bill McGrath from the International City/County Management Association Retirement Corporation (ICMA-RC) in Pullman on Wednesday, March 9.

All sessions will be held in the Benefit Services meeting room, 230 French Administration Building. Three different sessions are planned:
• 9-10 a.m. on retirement distributions
• 2-3 p.m. on retirement allocations
• 11 a.m.-2 p.m., a “drop-in session” for employees to ask questions or bring in investment statements for review.

“This is a great opportunity to update yourself on the workings of your retirement plan,” said Marie Weiss, benefit specialist.

If you are within five years of retirement, now is the time to make decisions regarding your retirement date, she said. “Planning ahead for retirement makes for a smoother transition.”

To register for sessions and for more information, see http://www.icmarc.org/pers/joining/education/investmentbasics.html.

Save money and health with plan to stop smoking
WSU is distributing free information as part of the Washington State Department of Health’s anti-smoking “Quit Line” campaign.

Tobacco users between the ages of 18-29 can call the Quit Line, speak with a smoking cessation specialist regarding options for kicking the tobacco habit, and are provided with the best program for quitting (gum or patch) at no charge. The Tobacco Quit Line is 1-877-270 -STOP (7867). Health insurance is not required.

Both WSU Health & Wellness Services and Benefit Services have a supply of flyers containing Quit Line information. Students involved with CHAT — the Cougar Health Awareness Team — will distribute the flyers to students around campus, said Marsha Turnbull, health education coordinator for Health & Wellness Services. Those who wish to help can call her at 335-6778.

Meanwhile, Jan Rauk, associate director in Benefit Services, has flyers for WSU employees for their own use or for a family member or friend who is within the 18-29 age range. Contact her at 335-2523 or jmrauk@wsu.edu. Please be sure to include your name, location and campus mail box, and the number of flyers you need.
