WSU Vancouver Joins Local NAACP to Promote African-American Literature

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Washington State University Vancouver’s Department of Education and Center for Social and Environmental Justice and the Vancouver National Association for the Advancement of Color People will take part Sunday, Feb. 6, in the 16th national African-American Read-In.

The read-in will be from 1-3 p.m. on the steps of Vancouver City Hall, 210 E. 13th St.

Schools, churches, libraries, bookstores, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are encouraged to come out and read a 3-5 minute selection of their favorite work of literature by an African-American author. The goal is to make the celebration of African-American literacy a traditional part of Black History Month activities.

More than a million readers are expected to participate in the nationwide event, organized by the National Council of Teachers of English and endorsed by the International Reading Association.
