Week-long Tsunami Assistance Effort to Kick Off Jan. 31 at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — A number of organizations and student groups at Washington State University are planning a week-long program to assist in relief efforts in support of the Asian countries stuck by last month’s tsunami.

Scheduled for the week of Jan. 31 through Feb 5, the assistance program is being organized by the International Students Council, International Programs and the Associated Students of WSU.

Additional participation in the program is being sought from a number of local organizations, both on and off-campus, including international student organizations whose members may have been affected directly by the disaster, committees of the ASWSU, Pullman businesses, civic groups and clubs, WSU academic departments and anyone interested in donating time to the cause.
 
An organizational meeting in support of the program has been scheduled at 5 p.m. Jan. 18 in room B-25 of the Compton Union Building. Organizers hope to schedule a benefit concert supported by Engineers without Borders and the Student Entertainment Board and are planning to conduct clothing and food drives within the Pullman community. Additional ideas for activities will be welcomed at the meeting.
