Local Photographer Highlighted at WSU Vancouver Gallery

VANCOUVER, Wash. — WSU Vancouver galleries will display selected works from Portland photographer Larry Cwik in the Student Services Building gallery beginning Dec. 9.

The exhibit will feature photographs from three different series, all featuring a surrealistic bent, and, as the artist notes, largely stemming from his subconscious.

Works from “The Visitor: Twenty Years Photographing Mexico” feature a wide range of color and light and are inspired by unusual scenes found during his travels. Other photographs focus on the artist’s travels to Morocco and are reflective of his fascination with the beauty, culture and the people of this pro-western Arab nation in North Africa. Pieces from Cwik’s “Totem” series feature stacked imagery influenced by the beauty and power of totem poles in the Pacific Northwest.

Entry to the exhibit is free. WSU Vancouver galleries are open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. Parking is available for $1.75 in the blue lot or at parking meters.
